Job Summary:

As a member of the Studio Talent Group the VFX Trainer is responsible for the design, development, and instruction of training courses for new and current employees in all global studios, with a focus on ILM’s Sydney studio.

We are looking for a VFX trainer who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, production excellence, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that define ILM.

On any given day you might...

  • Manage Jedi Academy efforts through developing curricula and documentation for entry-level talent, e.g. apprentices, graduates, interns, etc.

  • Manage all Studio Talent Group programs within the Sydney studio.

  • Deliver virtual technical training courses to ILM employees around the globe.

  • Create, evaluate and maintain technical documentation using Confluence.

  • Partner with studio leaders to understand technical training requirements.

  • Work closely with the Training Coordinator or to schedule and set up training.

  • Customise new starter technical training to meet the needs and goals of each trainee’s assigned production.

  • Evaluate and report on trainee progress to the Director of Talent Development, and appropriate department managers and production supervisors.

  • You are informed on the latest thinking on training and development methods and techniques.

  • You are skilled at fostering relationships across time-zones, providing global partners with an excellent level of service.

  • If needed, you can step in and carry out shotwork as required by productions.

  • You are experienced with industry-standard 2D and/or 3D software packages (Maya, Katana, Nuke, Houdini, Photoshop) or proprietary equivalent.

  • You are familiar with the G Suite (Gmail, Docs, Drive).

  • You have knowledge of Linux, shell scripting, Python, and C/C++ (desirable).

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, computer visualisation, or computer animation or related or you have equivalent industry experience.
